Why when switching between applics with Tab+Alt... 1

the horizontal bar of apps won't stay up?
Before, that bar would stay up until I would release Alt. But now it only stays up for 2 seconds top. Which I find very annoying.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

You could even try Safe Mode.

Type "Find and fix problems with Transparency and other visual effects" in the Start Menu SEARCH box and see if the troubleshooter can help you.

I haven't tried Safe Mode yet, but it didn't happened when I tried it with another user's account. So it seems it's specific to my account.

Maybe it happens while an application in particular is open (?)

Next time it happens, try Ctrl-Alt-Tab, or you may try it now.
What is nice about this way, you can even use a mouse to point to the app you want on "the horizontal bar of apps".

This behavior has irritated me for a long time! Andy, I tried your Ctrl-Alt-Tab trick, and it didn't work (did the same as Alt-Tab does), but then I tried another Win7 machine, and it DID work... weird.

There is another trick (easier to do than it is to describe)... Hold the left Alt key down (don't release it), then press and release the right Alt key once. Now, with the left Alt key still pressed, hit Tab and you get the old-style Alt-Tab screen.

The only other way I know to make the problem go away is to disable Aero Peek completely by doing the following:
Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings
(or right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced System Settings)
In the Performance section, click Settings. On the Visual Effects tab, select "Custom", then un-check "Enable Aero Peek".

There is also an Aero Peek checkbox under "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties", but this only removes Aero Peek with you put the mouse in the lower-right corner ("Show Desktop"). It does not turn off Aero Peek in Alt-Tabs.

Just for kicks and giggles, don't forget to throw Shift key to the equation sometimes. I see people have 27 windows open and when they Alt-Tab thru them, then they by-pass the window they want to have, so they keep clicking away another 26 times to get back to where they wanted to be.

Use Shift key (Alt-Shift-Tab) to go back, you will impress your co-workers

Er ... you can with ALT-TAB as well

Adding the CTRL key trick also works with Windows Key-TAB (for Flip 3D) - and you can selct with the mouse there as well.
