Why the saved attachment get from xp_readmail is renamed as xxx.TMP?

Dear all,

I'm using xp_readmail to get the attachment information.
I do can get the path, but I wonder why the saved attachment is renamed into xxx.TMP sometimes??
As I would like to check if it's MS Excel file just by its file name without opening it. How can I solve this?
