New to Business Objects Admin. I am using Oracle 9i DB. Why do I need to go to the trouble of setting up BO repository? Don't I have all the same capabilities built into Oracle 9i? If repository is optional, when is it a good idea to use it?

Setting up BO repository will give you possibility of setting up the security system that is very well developed with BO, gives you opportunity to send and receive document using BO structure, lets you do reporting on the metadata, will provide users with an automatic update of a document if you store an revised version to the corporate documents......

Oh, man I could keep enlarging this list for quite a while. Take some time to check supervisor guide. If you think you can skip the repository, you are missing the point....

What do you expect to find in ORACLE 9i that you could use to replace repository functions ??? T. Blom

the repository is most useful if you have users who are not the Universe designer or multiple designers or users who wish to share reports within Business Objects. I have never attempted to use Business Objects without it so I am not aware of what other traps you will encounter trying to do without it. I will say it can be very small compared to 'real' tablespaces. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
