I am trying to have my own web site, I installed IIS on my XP Pro system, I put a index.html page in the folder. When I typed the page shows up, but when I try to type my computer's IP address on my roommate's computer, it just can't find the page. I am not sure is that because of the router? Cause my computer use a router to connect the Internet, if it is the router make the problem, how can I resolve this problem? Thank you

Check to see if file and directory permissions are set to allow for browsing and updating file info.

One of the things that i had problems with is the routers firewall and the "localhost" fire wall. Make sure you grant access and add teh "guest" computer to the safe list.

Hope that helps.

May I ask you how to change the routers firewall and "localhost" firewall access. After I changed something on my computer, right now I type on my roommate's computer, the page content shows up, I think it is because we are under the same router. So I phoned another friend, I gave him my IP address, he said on his IE nothing shows up. I guess it is because the router firewall. Expect your reply, thank you very much.

liou1982,

There are several things to check:

1 - Do you have your router forwarding requests for port 80 to your machine (192.162.1.100) (go to your router's admin page to check this, or to set it up...the router documentation will tell you how this can be done.)

2 - In IIS, under properties for your directory, do you have the anonymous access account enabled? (it should be so that anyone can access your page)

3 - are you giving your friend your local IP address, or your external one? Make sure you give your external one, as this will be the only one that will work. (You can double check what this is by browsing to on your server's machine.
