Why is the backup job full?????????

Arcserve 2000 SP5

Why is is that whenever I modify the GFS job, even when it's just deselecting one measly file, tonight's (assuming it's Monday) backup will be FULL, not differential which is what I want???????? I went to calendar view but it won't let me set the backup to differential.

Is there anyway to change it????????????????????? My full backup takes 2 tapes and I don't want today's backup to take up 2 tapes just because I can't change it back to differential.

For that version of ARCserve everytime you modify and re-submit the job it will run Full first time it is resubmitted regardless of what you set, then follow the set rotation thereafter.

If you open a GFS rotation job in order to modify or only checks the parameters , than You re-submit the same job , the first time this start with full .

This is just plain dumb.

I modified a job last nite, all I did was add a frigging folder with 2 files in there and resubmitted it. It ran full (instead of diff) so it needed 3 tapes (which are needed for my full on fri). It's 1 tape for diff.

Argh, why can't CA implement an option where we want to choose diff or incr???????

CA may be cheaper than Veritas but it's a POS ware. Wish my company didn't renew the license recently!

Well - if your company has just renewed the licence don't you get a later version ? I'm pretty sure this works 'as you expect it to' in the later versions.

We have 3 networks, so 1 backup server in each network. One is running AS 2k, other 2 running AS 11.1. The original question of this thread is in regards to AS 2k.

My last comment is in regards to AS 11.1.

I would modify the job. I add a file in SOURCE tab. In SCHEDULE tab, backup method still says DIFFERENTIAL. I click on CALENDAR VIEW. It says FULL for Tues. I right-click on that day, all selections are blanked out except for PROPERTIES. Go into properties. Only option is FULL.
