An error message is given: "You attempted to open a database that is already opened exclusively by user 'myAdmin' on machine 'SNGDH25LH31S'. Try again when the database is available."

BUT User 'myAdmin' is myself and on verification, 'SNGDH25LH31S' is the machine that I was using.

I will appreciate any help...

Hi willir,

The OS that I am using is Windows NT which is the same OS for the server.

No attributes amongst Read-only, Hidden, Archive and Compressed are chosen. File permissions set to Full Control.
Still cannot, :(

Assuming no one has the database open, if you still cannot do anything with the MDB or LDB files, I'm pretty sure it's a network issue. Sorry, I don't know of any way to determine this from a workstation. The network guys should be able to look at the files and tell if they are being locked by a long gone connection - at least I know Novell shows who has a file. I'm not 100% positive about MS, but I think it does, too.

If cooperation from the network guys is an issue and you can make a good copy of the database, maybe they would be more inclined to just delete the files for you. Then you can put your copy back where it belongs. Just make sure it's a good copy before you have them delete the files.

FYI - you can view the LDB file with Notepad. Sometimes this can give you a clue who left the database abruptly. The individual might not have done anything wrong, but they might also have just turned the power off w/o properly exiting Access or have a cranky system that crashes often.

Yoz,

Good suggestion, thanks MoLaker. I think deleting files should not be too difficult for them... :) I guess this might be the best option for me...

Thanks for the info man, I did not know that the LDB can be viewed with Notepad.

Yo MoLaker

I think you're right about the network... now that you've reminded me <g>, I had quite a headache some years ago when the network jocks upgraded Novell, and we had issues with file locking.

It is not just record locking. I still think that somehow the table can not be recreated by the compact process.

Joshua Foo has stated...
- NT workstation
- Has opened the database in exclusive mode
- Seems that the server is NT (and not Novell)

With security on NT, you can create various types of permissions. One does not have to assign full rights; I suspect if Joshua and gang can get their Network Admin's to look at security, the cause of their problem will become apparent.

With ActiveDirectory, the security abilities approaches Novell.
