why can i not preview straight away when i add titles

After watching a video tutorial on how to add titles, i noticed the tutor was able to preview the ouvcome by dragging the timeline, however when i want to see what the title will look like on top of a video clip, i have to drag teh yellow markers and then run a preview which takes ages, is this the only way to see what the combination of title and video will look like?

I think if you position the timeline marker where you want it and then press 'Enter', you'll see the video with the title overlaid as you desire. Just pressing play will not show video effects, you'll just see a small 'x' in the corner during events such as titles or transitions.

Maybe I misunderstood your question.

no you got it, so once i add the title and add a track matte effect all i do is press enter and that will give me instant playback of results
