Hi all,
Am setting up backup scenario on a small set of servers(approx 20), belonging to two seperate Win2K domains. I have a couple of general questions (I'm sure more will follow):
1. Is the built-in GFS the rotaion method of choice, or is there some advantage to settng up a custom rotation schedule.
2. When backing up all of a windows domain, is there a preference for how the backup job is submitted? In other words, select the entire domain for backup or select each machine in the domain and submit as seperate jobs.
3. Is it correct that the three different media pools in a GFS rotation scheme will all pull from one scratch set?

Thanks in advance.
BobL.

1) standard rotation not GFS is the most popular from my perspective.
2) select each system and all in one job.
3) yes

Thanks for the reply. Any chance you could expand on the answer to question number 1? Is that choice of rotation made to remove the restrictions imposed on the GFS roation in a general sense, or are there specific problems one tends to encounter with the GFS roatation scheme.

BobL.

(P.S. To tell you the truth I am a little surprised that more people didn't check in with thier choice of rotaion schemes and thier logic behind it. I assumed most people are using some form of rotation scheme, but of course, I could be wrong :)

The standard rotation job is a very easy job to use.
Monday job backs up to a tape called Monday.
Tuesday job backs up to a tape called Tuesday and so on.
Simple and easy for just about any user to keep track of. Then if you want you can have a few different Friday tapes and switch them on your own.
