Which one of these notebooks is faster?

I am planning to upgrade my notebook. My two leading contenders are:

Area-51m Performance (which uses a SiS648FX + SiS963L AGP8X Chipset with an 800 MHz FSB)

vs:

ProStar 5614 (which uses a Intel i865PE+ICH5 chipset with an 800 MHz FSB)

Assuming they are configured the same: 3.2 GHz processor, 1.0 GB PC3200 RAM, 60 GB @ 7200 rpm HD, etc, which is faster?

Well, if they are configured the same and the only difference is chipsets then I don't think you'll notice any difference. For the most part Intel makes decent chipsets and I haven't heard anything bad about SiS. What it comes down to in the end is if these laptops are from two different companies. In that case go with whichever has a better reputation. You can look up various model systems at epinions.com and see what other people that own them have to say. You may find that one company uses weak plastic around where the screen attaches and tends to break eaisly.

Kiss your battery goodbye with that processor. I think its overkill. Get a centrino or an AMD mobile. Unless you don't plan on taking it anywhere for long.
