This is probably a very simple question, but it's driving me crazy. I am moving from a SQL 7.0 server to a 2000 SQL server and need to physically move my DTS and Jobs over but I can't find the actual files.

There is nothing in the jobs folder and I don't see any DTS file extension in the data folder, or anywhere else.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

These are both stored in the msdb system database. Look at the sysdtspackages and sysjobs tables (plus others).

DrewConn,

It depends upon where you saved them. Since you're running them from jobs, I'll bet you saved them to the SQL Server, not as a .DTS file. If so, you saved them into your MSDB database.

Easiest thing to try is to open up the packages in enterprise manager and then do a "Save As..." to the SQL 2000 box.

I've never tried this, tho, so there may be a step I'm missing.

Your jobs are in MSDB database in several tables:
sysjobs , sysjobhistory , sysjobschedules , sysjobservers , sysjobsteps..
But you are better off creating new jobs on the new server.

Also, for the DTS packages, you can edit them, and in the file manu click on the Package, and select save as.

In the screen that appears you can select any other server to save the DTS package to.
But again, you'll have to change each package to point to the local server, or

I am moving the DTS with the save as, then resaving under a new name on the original server, deleting the original dts and resaving the new one under the original name.

This is tedious but gives me the end results I need.

I think I'll also take your advise and just recreate my jobs on the new server.

With about 40 DTS's and 30 jobs it won't to too bad.

Thanks fo rall the input.
