Had to put HDD from one computer to another...but Windows 95 doesn't see the CD-ROM reader in the "new" computer. Not found in hardware...not in device manager. BIOS does see it. Tried installing driver but no luck. Both computers are from the '95 era. Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Is cd on same cable with hdd in "new" computer?
If so have you checked the jumper settings for both devices?
Is the cd from the "old" computer removed from device manager on the hdd?

CD is not on cable with HDD. Jumpers are okay. BIOS is recognizing everybody correctly. Old CD has been removed from Device Manager. ????

I don't have a windows 95 machine to look at right now-on 98 in add new hardware-if you get into "no I want to select hardware from a list - there is a question mark-other devices choice. It has a list of companies. Might take a look at your cd drive and model and then go through that list on the chance it would show up there and you could force it to install manually that way.

Unfortunately it's not on that list and the drivers I find aren't for Windows? Maybe I'll try to find another CD drive.

I'm sorry I dont have any other good ideas-I use win95 at home and fixing my cabling blunders and/or forcing manual installs have solved my cd issues to date. Swapping another drive would probably be quickest solution.

Solved !! Installed a newer CD Reader...then it's driver and all is well again. The old computer had an ATAPI type reader, I believe...and I installed an IDE this time. Don't know much about the difference but don't care at this point. Thanks for the suggestions, diogenes!
