Hello All,

I was using my newly installed Roxi Capture software to take picture off digi camera and step 2 of the wizard asked where I wanted to put my pictures and preceeded to show thumbnails of all my "recently" captured photos. Some of these photos I had moved off my camera over a year ago and have subsequently moved them off the PC altogether.

My question is, since this is new software, where would it get these thumbnails.

Does Windows XP create a cache somewhere? if so, how can I remove it.

Thanks
Steve

Use Explorer to look at:
c:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\My Documents\My Pictures

You might want to turn on thumbnails in View.

In Folder Options under View look at "Do Not Cache Thumbnails"?

This disables automatic storage of folder thumbnails in a cache file. When you store thumbnail images in a cache file, Windows can reuse them instead of creating new ones every time you open a folder. If you disable this automatic storage function, folders that contain thumbnails might take longer to open.

By way of a rough guess, see if you have (and delete) any Thumbs.db file in the image folders and subfolders of moved images. These are hidden and system files so adjust your Folder Options/ View to see them.

Thanks for the response.

I have "enabled" the Do Not Cache option and have deleted the 2 thumbs.db I found. Howvere they were not in the folder that was shown in the "Properties" of the photo when I right clicked in the Roxio Capture. And actualy, the folder suposedly containg the photos doesn't even exist anymore.

Is there any other cache file that I can search for.

Thanks

2 Thumbs.db seems a bit low if you are using Thumbnails and moving images around. Have you searched your computer for Thumbs.db, and have you set your Search engine to also Search in Subfolders, System folders, and search Hidden files and folders, this is an extra necessity to be added to the showing of Hidden and System files.

What software was handling your photos prior to Roxio? Has that got an Album or Thumbnail cache still on your machine?

Hello linney,

Yes searched whole computer, I did find a few more but I knew they we're related to the photos so didn't mention. Also I'm using Directory Opus as my file manager so not sure if it uses the same thumbs.db file.

As for previous software, :-( not sure, was over a year ago and can't remember. I think it might have been the free software that came with camera (Cannon something or other) If it does have a cache I wouldn't know where it was. Also strange that Roxio would - though I suppose if there was a common Registry setings...

Anyway, I have found a way via Roxio to remove images from the "recent list" tho that will do.

Thanks for your help
