Hello,
I built a server out of old used stuff that a few friends were never going to use.
Here is the dirt...
mobo: SIS 530/5595
RAM: 328MB
HDD: 30 Gig 7200RPM (that wasn't free)
OS: RedHat 7.3 (text only server)
CPU: 150MHz Pentium
Notice anything wrong? The 150MHz CPU? Yeah, that is my problem. I can't find one!!! Copying a file takes 67% of the processor. That is not good. The system is very, very stable, it's just really slow.
Does anyone know where I can find a 550MHz Intel socket 7 (ya know, the regular old 370 pin flat CPU)? Actually, it doesn't have to be a 550, but faster than 150.
I know I can over clock the heck out of it, but I don't feel like running A/C duct work to the case just to keep it cool enough to stay running.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...I don't care if it's used, new, boxed, unboxed, or overpriced (well, if it is priced so high that I could get a mobo/CPU combo, forget it).
(Note to the watchdogs: I am not trying to invoke selling, solicitation, or a financial trasaction of any kind. I know the rules for tek-tips.com, and I have the utmost respect for them. If it weren't for tek-tips.com, and all the good folks that keep it running, and those ever-patient-gurus who answer my silly questions, I'd still be a lamer. I am just really stuck in trying to find a hardware componant.)
Thanks for the help in advance! ;-) Hope I was of some help...
