When my computer starts, I get massages saying it can't find a device file needed to run windows or a windows application. Windows registry or system.ini refers to this device, but the the device file no longer exists.

These are the devices:

pbewd01s.vxd
pbewdsm.vxd
arkdoshk.vxd
c:\Windows\system\vmm32\vpowered.vxd
can I just save these in the windows\system\vmm32 folder?

Have you tried formatting and re-installing your software to eliminate the possibility that one or several elements of your operating system may have corrupted or been accidentally deleted ?

Please do not rule out the possibility that this may also be a hardware failure. If you can not solve with a software fix and you have access to a spare hard drive ( even a small one for the purpose of testing ) to find out if the hard drive controller or head mechanism is defective.

Please advise if you have additional information like when the problem started and whether you had just installed or uninstalled a software title, thanks.
