Hello all,
We have a RH Linux 6.1 server with 256M memory. Sybase ASE version 11.9.2 is the only major software installed in this server.
We wanted to allocate 192M RAM to Sybase during installation since this machine will be used primarily as a database server. However, no matter what we tried, the most we could get for Sybase is 24M. Any request for more than 24M failed because of insufficient memory.
The output of both "free" and "top" indicated that more than 200M of RAM were used even before we installed Sybase. What is eating up all the memory?
With Sybase installed and fired up, both "free" and "top" showed about 3M of free memory. But the %MEM column of "top" showed that the database server only used 8.2% of mem. What's going on here?
Are there any tools other than "free" and "top" for monitoring memory usage?
Thanks for any info and comments.
