I have a situation where I will need to upgrade 12 DC's running windows 2000 to windows 20003. Unfortunally I cannt just upgrade the servers becuase of Hardware RAID configuration changes I will need to make to each server at the same time. I have a spare Server that I want to put windows 2003 on and make it a DC then replace an existing 2000 server and use that server to build the next 2003 server, and so on until all 12 are done. My question is:
1.) When I introduce the first 2003 server into the 2000 domain do I have to transfer all the FSMO roles to that server or can I keep the FSMO roles on the 2000 DC until I get to that particular server that holds the FSMO roles in my upgrade path? If so should I wait and do the 2000 FSMO role server last? First? Any suggestions? Keeping in mind I cannot upgrade any of these servers they will all be new installs.
