I hope this is an easy question. I have had some computers removed from my LAN but are unsure as to which ones. Can I delete all the computers from DHCP and see what ones come back when the clients log back in? Also could I do this with Active Directory Users and Computers and delete the computers.
Please advise.

Yep, you can delete the computer from dhcp and the workstation will grab a new dhcp address on login...

Were the workstations removed from your domain before they were taken off the network? If not, it's better to get the names of the computers and remove them from the AD users and computers snapin. If they still power on, just run ipconfig /all at a dos prompt to get the name.

I've always been the curious type. How and why were they removed. Theft? Moving day? It might give us a better idea as to how to help. Good luck.

Glen,
Actually I phrased it somewhat incorrectly. Some were removed and replaced with newer computers. Others were reformatted and clean installs with different names. Most of the changed names were to make them easier to find. I would assume since the reformatted installs had the same NIC with the same MAC address would warrent the same IP from DHCP but am not totally positve of that.
We still have many windows 98se and ME operating system computers that I am slowly moving over if possible to Win2k. The earlier naming convention was the old number and letter that came with it and made them difficult to locate.
So I am sure that I also have more computers in active directory that I really have. I guess I need to go about it the hard way and inventory every computer by name and location. Was trying for an easier way.
Thanks for your help you guys.
