I'd be interested in a solution to this problem.

Since upgrading my machine and change to win 2000 my machine also restarts itself after shutting down (within 5 seconds). I've been through all the options I can think of such as power saving etc and can't find anything obvious.

Its not like a restart as the machine completely shutsdown then starts as if th power button is pressed.

XP and 2000 default to restarting if an error is detected. This includes any errors detected during shutdown.

nfpk: Using the Event Viewer, look in the System Log for any errors that occur during the time of a shutdown.

bazzert: I'm not sure if this applies to your problem, since you say the system completely shuts down, but it can't hurt to look.

Thanks for your reply Freestone, I'd already looked through System Log and found no errors.

However after posting I once again went through all the BIOS options (must have done numerous times) and noticed an option in the Power Management. This was 'PME Event Wake Up' which was enabled and should wake up the system from a soft-off or suspend. I disabled this and the system now shuts down properly. Its a bit weird as the same setting were used before upgrade (CPU and HD)

I have seen some software for CDRW's cause these problems in XP. The software was the Roxio Easy Drive software. Some versions were incompatible with WinXP and NT. Then to fix it you had to delet something in the Registry after uninstalling the program and removing the drives in the control panel and then get some new CDRW software. Could be something else.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
