The computer was using Nero 5.5 and it would burn the CD, when completed the CD would eject then the computer would restart......

We thought the problem was the software, however XP has its own burning software

so we copy the fikles to the cd and click "write files to cd" it would complete then the cd ejects and then the computer restarts, when the computer is back on it asks to write file to cd again, because it didnt complete

Details
OS: win XP SP1
CPU:2Ghz
RAM:256Mb
HDD:20Gb 7Gb free
Burner: LITE-ON LTR-48246S (48x/24x/48x CD-RW)

could it be a virus on the computer? we are using Sophos Ant-Virus and is up to date

so is it hardware, or software?

thanks

Nero has a check box for the exact condition, go through your preferences and uncheck it. I would update to 6 or greater as 5.5 has conflicts with some hardware

nero was working before then suddenly the computer restarts so i do not think it is that....
Also the XP burn doesnt work when nero is not open

It is unchecked......

thanks anyway :)

To get further information about any error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

Thanks there is the dum file, but i couldnt read it

so what i did was go to the advanced tab in system, then startup and recovery, and unticked the box that says restart.

this gave a blue screen stop error

STOP: 0x00000076 (0xY,0xY,0xY,0xY) PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES

so thanks for your help
