When a snap-in fails to load, how do you go about uninstalling and reinstalling it. My particular snap-in thats failing is System Information. When I try to add it in the MMC, it says its not available.

Sorry ignore that thats for the remote admin snap-ins. My bad.

msinfo32 consits of a few files, check that the following exist:

\program files\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo\msinfo32.dll
\program files\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo\msinfo32.exe
\program files\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo\msinfo32.msc
\winnt\help\msinfo.chm
\winnt\help\msinfo.hlp
\winnt\inf\msinfo.inf
\winnt\inf\msinfo.pnf

If any of these are missing, you can get them from the i386 folder on your win 2k cd. They are compressed (you will see and _ replace the last charcter of the file extension).

Open up a command window and browse to this folder, from there expand the missing file (if any) into the relevent folder. For Example:

expand msinfo32.ex_ c:\progam files\common files\microsoft shared\msinfo
let us know how you get on.

Thanks a lot. My snap-in is working fine now. It was missing the msinfo32.dll file. Since it was the first one I looked for it was much less of a pain than I thought.
