what's the secret to creating dot matrix labels

In Windows 2000 trying to print to a dot matrix okidata 9 pin printer with single column labels, continuous feed just can't get the printing to line up it never seems to format.

Any ideas to taking out the frustrations of this hunt and peck process?

1. Are you using the proper printer driver?
2. Is the lable dimension (top of one to top of next) the dimenstion that you are using in your source application?
3. What source application are you using?
