If all my vtp server fail, are traffic on vtp client normal?
I think it's normal although I can't modify vlan info,but I am not sure.
thanks!

Good question! I think that all your ports that are associated with any vlans created by the server would go inactive. I've also asked this question to a peer of mine and he disagrees...So it looks like were heading to the lab to find out for sure.

I haven't experienced this, but I doubt the client would remove it's last configuration. In my understanding of VTP, the client will only change it's config by a server. Even if the server is offline, the client should be running it's last configuration.

Do a "show vtp status" and see when the last configuration was updated. This should help you out.

Be very careful when you add a new VTP server though. Because the new VTP server will have a newer update, it will overwrite all the clients configuration.

Also, you can have more than one server for redundancy. The vtp server with the newest configuration will be the one making the updates, and the other vtp server(s) will be update like a client from the master server.

I do a lab like this:
3550a is vtp server
3550b is vtp client
I do "sh vlan " on the 3550b when I reload 3550a,all vlan on the 3550b is still active,so I think traffic can be normal even if all vtp server is fail . Am I right?
thanks!

On url ,I found this:"The only differences between the server and the client is that VLAN cannot be configured directly on a client, and the client does not remember the VLAN after a reboot (no VLAN information is written in NVRAM). "
So I think everything will ok if I don't reboot my vtp client switch after all vtp server fail.Am I right?
thanks very much.
