Hi, there:

I am upgrading my Dell PowerEdge 2300 NT4 server. After I put in the new RAM, the server wouldn't start. The new RAM I put in is 256MB 133MHz Dell ECC 168pin DIMM. I thought this is pretty much standard RAM module nowadays?

Please help!

Thanks,

BMW

it isn't... For Dell, you will need special RAM modules (must be Dell Rams) Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Don't know the 2300 specifically, but;
If the RAM is Dell in origin, is it the same spec as the existing RAM ?. If the existing RAM is 100Mhz, a 133Mhz module may be a problem. There is usually a little sticker on Dell supplied RAM giving a hint.
There may also be some positioning convention, like largest module in slot 0, next largest in slot 1, and so on.
If there are two banks for memory in the 2300, you may have to use the first slot on each bank before moving to the next slot.

Still having problems ?

Try removing all RAM and just putting the new mod in alone. Does it boot then ? If not you may have a faulty module.

Hope this helps Ian
