What's it worth? Catalyst 8510C

I have a Cisco Catalyst 8510C Layer-3 switch that I aquired a couple of years ago that is no longer of any real use to me. It is a 5-slot modular Layer-3 switch (its just a big router really), with a C8510-SRP Route Processor, a C85FE-8T-16K 8-port 10/100 module and a C85FE-8F-16K 8-port 100BaseFX (Fibre) module. It also has dual PSU's and a separate Fan tray. It runs 12.1(x)E train IOS; latest is 12.1(26)E4.

I would like to know a realistic price I can expect from either eBay or privately? Sorry if this is against site policy but I couldn't think of any where else to try?

You would only get a few hundred bucks out of it at the most.. It would be worth more if you had ATM pieces for it..


If you're looking at getting your CCIE I would keep it just to have something to pratice ATM or frame relay...


Other than that, its worthless now..

The 8510C SRP doesn't support any ATM modules; Ethernet only (they is a 1-port Gigabit Ethernet card).

Already a CCIE...... Passed R&S in June 2000 ) I need to book the written in the next couple of months to recertify

I don't think it is 'Worthless' - it's actually quite a good router and doesn't have the limitations a lot of the 'stackable' switches have like Netflow support and QoS counters that actually count ;o)

I was hoping for about £400-500 UK - list price for an 8-port FastEthernet card is over $7,000 on the Cisco Global price list.

I'll probably keep it as I can actually do quite a lot with it in the lab; maybe use it for getting my head back into all the OSPF area types and what you can and can't do within them.
