all telcos in the USA use fiber in their network/outside plant somewhere. Verizon's FIOS brings it right into your home to an ONT. AT&T is still 95% (approx) xDSL. Yeah, they have fiber strung out and about but most of it only goes to a terminal box within 3 miles of your home. From that terminal box, it's copper to your home. The other telcos are pretty much like AT&T. Verizon is about the only telco that has gone against the boys on Wall Street's recommendation and ran fiber to the home/premises.
