I have a large report that needs to be created from a database. The sample report is 94 pages. The report consists of graphs, tables, footers, headers, and at the end some lengthy text that is a summary of the data on the tables.

My first thought is to use Crystal Reports that comes with VS.NET but I have never used it. My second thought is to use Excel but I don't think that it has the capability to make the report look as good as CR. My last thought was to use MS Word but can I import graphs and tables from excel to make this work?

Thanks,
enak

I would suggest either Crystal Reports, or Microsoft's new SQL Server Reporting. CR has long been considered the king of the crap pile. Which is to say, its a horride piece of garbage, but it's the best piece of garbage available. I haven't used MS's new product to know how it compares though.

I am accessing an MS Access database. Will the SQL Report tool work with that?

btw, I have SQL Server 2000 installed. Where can I find the report tool?

Can't you create the report in access or are you looking for something better?

I have never created a report in Access either. I have created the frontend using Windows Forms and VB.NET. Can I call an access report from the frontend?

Oh, I didn't know that was your intention. I would use CR and go directly to the access database then. No need to mess with SQL Server if you don't need to.

yes you can call and print a report from access directly.

Thanks to you all for your responses. Mansii, I am having a hard time pulling up the page that you posted.

I really need a good tutorial on how to create CR reports and Access reports.

Does anyone know of any?
