Hi

Im new to Brightstor backup and am having a few problems with the software in regards to backing up exchange.

Under the exchange server there are a few options to select for backup:

Microsoft Exchange Server - Database Level(IS)
Microsoft Exchange Server - Database Level(SRS)
Microsfot Exchange Server - Brick Level

Do I need to select all of these to get a complete backup of all the mailboxes ?

When I do select the Database Level (SRS) i am receiving a fail to read from database and it is asking me to mount the database ? Does this sound right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

IS level backs up the whole database as a single object.
Bricks Level backs up at the mailbox level, so it is slow but lets you restore back a single mailbox.

David thanks for the reply.

I have managed to get a successful backup by selecting both the:

Microsoft Exchange Server - Database Level(IS) and
Microsfot Exchange Server - Brick Level

Is this an adequate backup for the exchange service or do i need Microsoft Exchange Server - Database Level(SRS) aswell ?

Im also unsure on the difference between database level (IS) and (SRS). There is only one exchange server running.

Thanks

Don't know. DB Agents are my weak area and I'm short on time right now. First place to look is in the Exchange DB Agent manual. It can be found on the Docs directory on the CD. The DB Agent manuals are really pretty good and easy to follow. Most of the DB Agent problems I look at are fixed my just following the manual.

Hi,

The SRS database would come into play only when you a have a mix of Exchange 5.5 and the later versions of exchange (exch 2000) in the same organization.

If you do not have a mixed mode envrionment, that is you have only Exchange 2000 servers in your environment, dont bother backing the SRS Storage group.

Cheers
