The following questions are really geared toward other vendors. I would like to know what other vendors are charging customers for work completed on their systems. I just started a new company and am in need of guidance. I want to be competitive, fair and not work too cheaply. The last thing I want to do is drive the cost of the work we do down since this is how we all make our living. What are your thoughts on trip charges, site visits and remote work?

I have seen anywhere from 85-225 an hour plus a destination fee

85 is too cheap IMO but for someone working out of the trunk of their car it may suffice

It all depends on your area. Providers in downtown Boston are going to charge more than Fargo, North Dakota.

Definitely depends on where you are. Typically $100/hr seems to suffice for remote or onsite work, with $50-100 trip charges. Seems to be cheap enough that they don't run away, and expensive enough for them to rethink a service contract or block of hours support.

I agree on that.
A service contract is the way to go but we only do hardware failures for that.
I think i will suggest limited or unlimited changes for a certain fee.
We have a lot of customer who maintain there IPO themselves but if often happen that they throw away virtual users :)
