I'm trying to review our backup strategy.
Is it really necessary to backup a full working W2K server including WINNT/Program files or would it be just as easy to rebuild one if it went down and just restore the data files.
I was thinking of just using ldife to export AD userdata/passwords to a file.
We have fully documented the rest of the config so I think it could be restored quite easily.

It usually isn't worth all the extra time it takes to back up EVERYTHING on a computer, especially Program Files. You want to back up things that you will not be able to restore later, such as databases, developer code and system state (which includes the registry).
