Hi,
I have a simple question, I THINK...;)

In the s8700 ip connect world where I will have multiple G650s communicating with PNs, do my CLAN, VAL, IPSI, Medpro cards need to be routable or non routable.
Meaning are these cards onlyc communication with the G650 and not the s8700. I guess the G650s are acting as a router/gate between each PN that contains a CLAN or VAL or IPSI.

DO THEY ALL NEED TO BE ROUTABLE?

IPSIs need to talk to S8700s, the CLANs and MEDPROs talk to other port networks and/or ip endpoints

So can the CLANs, MEDPROs and VAL boards be on there own private network served of my seperate voice VLAN(meaning the multiple sites with s8700s in my network are seperate VLAN)?
Also so where do the G650s come into play? Are they just switching traffic between s8700 controlled PNs?

Sorry, I probably know enough about data/ip networks to be totally confused and confusing at the same time!

the g650's are the carrier that holds all of the ipsis, val, medpros, clans, etc...

they are really just the backplane of the port network

any inter-port network traffic will be communicated via the medpro and clan..

the IPSI's of every port network will talk to the S8700s.. The IPSIs are used to control the port network(s)

You can put all of the cards on the same vlan if you want to, as long as the proper QoS mechanisms are in place there is no big deal of how you do it.

hope this helps

I'm getting there. Last question...I promise.

If I have a stand alone PBX(another 8700 setup) connected to my current 8700(which controls multiple sites) does the mapD/medpro/clan/station cards need to be aware of one another in any aspect across the the two switches?
Or is all I need from PN's clan/mapD/Val is connectivity to IPSI(in same PN) which talks to my main s8700 who communicates with the stand alone 8700 over DCS?

Simply put I want to confirm there is no need for clan/medPro boards on my main 8700 to be aware of the clan/medpro/map on the stand alone from a network configuration point.

THANKS A BUNCH FOR YOUR HELP!

it depends on how they're DCS'ed together, if its PRI, or T1, then no, they don't need to communicate.. If its IP trunking or PPP data mod, then the CLANS/MEDPROs need to be able to talk to each other.

Hope this helps

THANKS!
So right now my vendor setup for the s8700 is for multi-connect but once we go to ip trunking(adding the stand alone to a network of 3 8700s at different locations) then I need to make sure each clan/mapd on those systems can communicate.

On a different note, Are IP softphones call control under the clan? What about IP desk phones?

Thanks again for your help...

UNFORTUNATELY IT PROBABLY WON'T BE THE LAST OF ME ASKING OTHER "CONNECTIVITY" RELATED QUESTIONS!!

BuckWeet,
Can you explain your last comment?
Also, where does QOS come into play here. Is it at the CLAN/Medpro level or the IPSI/S8700 server level?

QoS is on the CLAN and Medpro Level, as this is the only traffic that should be routing across your network and where all the IP Phones and Softphones communicate with. Specifically RTP (Real Time Protocol) Packets which carry the audio portion of the call.

Thank you,
