Hi all, In general, do you design your web pages for 800 X 600 monitors? Is it still the most used resolution or can we start thinking bigger now? I'd really appreciate your opinions... Thanks in advance!

frenchtaquito,

I still design to 800x600 -- I think it's still a bit early to start lookin to bigger resolutions. There's too many people using smaller monitors, and that horizontal scrolling junk is always a big pain.

If anyone else has any opinions on it, I'd be glad to hear them as well!

No I tend to work for 800*600 as well The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you've got it made.

I think it all depends on your target audience.

My works site is designed for 800*600 as it's aimed at businesses etc.
The site I'm designing for my self is going to be a portal for my ideas, art and animation. This I'm designing for 1024*768 as I can be a little more free in the design.

Hi all!

When I design sites I choose only from two layout types:

1) first one is fixed with a width of maximum 740 pixels, usually not bigger that 700 pixels (you may call it 800*600);

2) another one is relative with 100% width. Personally I prefer this one more.

I think that there are huge number of people using 800*600 monitors. It also depends on countries and regions - I know for sure that for example in Russia a half!!! of all users still have 800*600 monitors... Good Luck! :)

I design for 800*600 and 1024*768 resolution... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

GUJUm0deL,
You wrote that you design for both 800*600 and 1024*768 resolution. Say you have layers on your page. I can center tables to looks good in both resolutions but layers will be thrown off in a different res. and also if I have a popup menu or a pop up window that is absolutely positioned in the code using x and y params, that will also be thrown off. So how do you design these page elements to look good in both 800*600 and 1024*768? Thank you.

That's a dynamic table!

Hi. I code for 800*600 and 1024*768...
But it all depends on your target audience... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

I use layers primarily. For inexpensive sites I try to design so that it fits in 800x600 and looks decent in 1024x768. I have read several places there are more users in the US at 1024x768 than 800x600 now. I have a hard time accepting that just yet. Peace

flasher, I don't use too many layers in my sites, but when I do, I use the techinque that I did for you on your page...it works and its hassle free...
Of course if you have like 4 layers or more, then its a pain to do it that way...
I never experimented with liquid layers...maybe I should... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...
