I have an XP pro box that a user is setup with that can't access the Internet. The NIC is working and is able to get on the domain but can't access the Internet. We have a Cisco firewall but don't know model type.. She seems to be the only one in the building who can't access the internet. She is set to port 8080.

Must be a port day, hey brono? Answer Bronto's question, I'm just throwing this out because it's a nice little site. Good luck.

The most common ports for IIS are :80 and :8080. If one doesn't work, maybe you could try the other.

hope this helps

If running a proxy, the proxy address should be set as well as the port.
I would check the connection settings in the browser, and uncheck the automatically detect settings box and try again.
If you have the proxy set and the port to use, having that box checked can cause problems.

yes she is as everyone in the building is. This is an elementary school environment...

yes, automatic detect is not checked and the proxy address is set with port 8080 established. I tried changing it to just 80 and reset everything. I'm wondering if this is a deeper problem. I'm wondering if a port is blocked at the switch on this user's jack (drop)

Just a thought, but have you compare the internet connection settings with thos that CAN access the internet and noticed any differences?

Open a browser window and go to yahoo site and see if you get to yahoo's site using an IP address. It should show yahoo's error page. This will see if it is a DNS problem or if in fact it is being blocked.
What are you using for a proxy server, and if it has a client software is it installed. If it does have proxy client software re-install it on that machine.
