...but not change existing content of the file?

When I used special permissions "Create files/write data" and "Create folders/append data" on a file I was able to append data to the end of file using command "echo hello >> p:\test\test.txt" and modify the content using command "echo hello > p:\test\test.txt" but I want to prevent existing content modification.

When I used special permission "Create folders/append data" and disabled (only unchecked, not deny) "Create files/write data" after command "echo hello >> p:\test\test.txt" I received "Access is denied".

Whould you have an answer? Thank you

if you have change permissions on non-database files, you can change anything inside those files... what you want to do cannot be done without an application (or database management system) imposing constraints...

Thank you jtb for your answer. But what is the meaning of special permission "Create folders/append data"?

Where are you seeing the option "Create folders/append data"? In a windows dialog or the dialog of some application?

Create folders/append data" are special permissions which can be setup using windows explorer/File (or folder) properties/security/advanced/permissions/view/edit..

In the windows help, search for "Create folders/append data" select 'Special permissions for files and folders'.
