I have computer which is just 14 months old. IT was set up like:

Motherboard: MSI M7T266 Pro 2
CPU: Athlon 1600 XP
Ram: 256 MB Crucial
Hard Drive: IBM 60 GB
Video Card: Milkystar Geforce 2 Ti
Modem: Yeah it's got one

etc

I have had no end of problems with the CPU Fans dying, every 6 months or so.

About 2 weeks ago I took the machine in for a RAM expansion to 768 MB. The RAM fitted by the shop was in conflict with the Crucial RAM and the machine, and lead to a drive reformat after repairs.

The shop fitted Kingston RAM to fix the conflict.

At the same time they were requested to change out the video card fan under warranty as it had been found to be failing prior to the end of the warranty period.

On Wednesday this week (about a week and a half after the botched RAM job) the number pad on the keyboard stopped responding. I thought it was just the keyboard and bought a new keyboard on Thursday.

On Thursday morning I ran scan disk as I do every week and the machine failed to recover. By this what I mean is that it came up with a warning that one of Windows XP's files had gone corrupt and that I needed to replace the file.

Not to be deterred I placed my CD in the DVD drive and plugged in the new keyboard. Turned on teh machine and it asked me to press any key to boot from the CD. Except I couldn't press any key as the keyboard refused to respond, no lights lit no nothing.

I took the machine to another shop, hoping for some expertise I did not possess. They have reported that it needs a new motherboard?

I am of course wondering if the conflict in the RAM did some damage to the motherboard? What the warranty is in reality on an MSI motherboard? If the Kingston RAM is still in conflict with the crucial? And if I can claim anything against the other shop?

In addition to the new motherboard the other shop has also reported the video card fan is hardly rotating at all. I took this back to the original shop as this is clearly their problem. However, this also makes me wonder if the motherboard has been damaged through heat at the AGP slot?

Well it look like the shop your going to for parts is a chop shop. If all your things are failing like that it might be the people working on your computer. When I first moved back to my town, I went to this computer shop and started buying my parts there. Well I bought 6 mother boards one month, all MSI out of those six I had to return 4 of them, ,not just once but twice, smae with some sticks of memory. So yes chop shops do exist, ,or on the other hand you could have luck like me have 3 CPU's fry up, one cause of a faulty fan wire, and 2 just because. here are you multiple choicec answers a.crappy parts b.Chop Shop computer store c.Techs who use to flip burges at Micky D's only 2 months ago d.Born under a bad sign If its worth anything I just had to spend 1000 dollars on my system 2 chips ago, when I spent 1500 on it back in Sept. Hey I look at this way I was forced to keep up with the Jones's

1. It sounds like the first shop doesn't know what the H--L they're doing.

2. Sounds like the mobo is ruined( if it already wasn't faulty previously(continuous replacement of CPU fans???).

3. Poor or faulty power supply.

It actually sounds like there were mobo or psu problems before the memory extravaganza. If the mobo is out of warranty, I suggest going with an ASUS mobo. Make sure the heatsink and CPU fan are rated for AMD processors. The videocard fan replacement sounds like a power problem also. Since it looks like the mobo had a 1 year warranty, it may be a real fight to get a FREE replacement if that is the problem.

If this is your mobo, Note that it takes KINGSTON memory.

If you had an exended warranty make them replace the old parts with new parts. You could tell them that you want to see the new parts in their unopened packages before the work is done. It is always a problem when someone else is working on your computer. It is difficult to tell if they actually replace the parts and if the parts they replace them with are actually new or leftover parts or refurbished parts. I would ask for an itemized list of everything they do to your computer.

If you are tired of dealing with them you may want to contact the better business bureau or possible the attorney general's office, if you think they have failed to live up to their agreements or committed fraud, or broken and laws.

I would not do business with a company or a business that uses substandard products when it comes to computers.

I usually order my own parts and build my own computers. It is not too terribly difficult. I have found RAM from Crucial to be good for replacement or upgrade. I like their site because they match the RAM to the motherboard or retail computer model, so you know it will be compatible. Often you can get free shipping from If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.
