What is WinXP Media Center Edition?

I have just purchased an Acer Aspire notebook. It comes with WinXP Media Center Edition. What--if anything--does the Media Center Edition add (and/or subtract) from the regular version of XP-SP2. Or is this really just the MS marketing folks being creative?

Also is this edition based on XP Home or XP Professional?
