What is up with my monitor

ok, I have a LG 17` monitor, i just recently bought a gf4, now, my monitor seems to turn off by itself and stay off for about 10- 20 secconds, the power does not shut off, it just goes black, could anyone please help me ?

At what point does the monitor turn off? What are you doing when this occurs? More details would help. ~Apex1x

Well, im not doin anythin, it may be just surfing the net, or talkin on mIRC, it will just go black for a while then return back on.

Are you accidentally kicking or touching the power bar on the ground?
Check if there are any programs running in the background that may want to be changing video modes on you. See what is starting up by going to the start button->run->msconfig, and then the startup tab.
If everything seems fine, make sure your power saving settings in BIOS and windows are not set too low.
Right click desktop->properties->screen saver tab->power button.
I recommend setting everything to never(always on), unless you are on a laptop.
Do the same in BIOS (when the computer first boots)
Access it by pressing F1, DEL, or whatever the command is for your system.

To add a thing or 2 to what apex said:
There are two little screw thingys (like that description?)
on the plug for your monitor...where it hooks to the video card...make sure the plug is in all the way and screw those in 'til they're secure. You got so excited at having the new nvidia card you forgot to, didn't you? Understood.
Sounds like you've just got the plug made up but the thingys are loose...and the connection is erratic.

just a suggestion...could it be the high voltage transformer in the monitor heating up???
Ive seen this happen with a Tv and I know its not the same a monitor but if it isnt a cable problem as suggested above it might be something to check.

rofl, i figured it out, it was a virus, i downloaded a screensaver pack, and this virus switches my monitor off :'( thank u all for ure help , much appreciiated
