My system was infected with the hybris virus, and it was suggested to replace the wsock32.dll file on my hard drive. Since I did this, I am not able to connect through the network to check email or use the internet. I do log on to the network successfully.

Thanks in advance

Hello, Sauce.

Two basic things to make sure.

[1] Eliminate (/rename) multiple copy
Leave only the one in c:\windows\system. Rename or eliminated all other copies, if exist. (Use Find | File to locate them on c: drive).

[2] Restore with the correct version
Do not restore a mismatch version of wsock32.dll. Replace with an updated version is not welcoming, neither an older version. The best way is to restore by extracting it from the installation package. (In win98, it should come within precopy1.cab.)

version info /quote/
The Windows 95 Wsock32.dll file is 65 KB in size and has a date stamp of 7/11/95. In some versions of Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2), the Wsock32.dll file may have a different date stamp. The Windows 98 Wsock32.dll file is 40 KB in size and has a date stamp of 5/11/98. The Wsock32.dll file included with Windows 98 Second Edition is 40 KB in size, with a date of 4/23/99. /unquote/ [MSKB Q175722]

For instance, an updated version for win2000 say won't do.
