What is the Cardex Service in WXP 1

Hi all

I have an event id 7000 from the service control manager!

The cardex service failed to start due to the following error
"Cardex, error: Cannot create file when that file already exists"

what is this / how do i get rid of it ?

Whatever Cardex service might be, it is not a native XP service.
A guess, it is a notification tray icon service applet for your video card, and can be safely disbled.

Start, Administrtive Tools, Services, find Cardex and set its startup to disabled.

I found some loose references to Cardex and Gainward on Google

There is no Cardex service in the services panel !

any other ideas where its called from ?

Start, Run, msconfig
Look in the Startup programs tab.

The other utility that works great for these kinds of chores is Hijack This! faq608-4650

Either, I would use Hijack with all options for Scan enabled, as it looks at all the registry keys and allows removal.
