I have a Intel Pentium III CPU (800 mhz) installed in a Tyan Socket 370 S1854 Trinty 400 mainboard.
It has been acting more than a bit flukey and I wonder if changing the multiplier would help.
The multiplier is currently set at 6.5. I think that the bus speed is 133 (6.5 x 133 = 864.5). I think that I could change the multiplier to 6 (6 x 133 = 798).
Do you think that this would improve or hurt "stability"?

Hello Kiernanf,
Is it an 800,800E,800EB.....?
Also, is that mobo a combo 370/slot1 or just a socket 370?

PC100 or PC133 memory?

8.0 x 100 or 6.0 x133

Shouldn't be. Cpu's are pretty rock solid actually, hardly ever see one go bad; plus the pentium's have the multiplier locked, so you can't over or under-clock them that way. You could set the fsb to 100MHz so the cpu is then running at 650MHz.

As to the cause of the problem, I would guess it's a faulty motherboard, or ram.

Depending on your CPU, which apparently has been running at 133:

Pentium III- 800 MHz- 133 MHz Bus Speed- 6x Clock Muiltiplier
Pentium III- 800 MHz- 100 MHz Bus Speed- 8x Clock Muiltiplier

The test continues...
