What is the attachment table?

Can anyone explain the attachment table to me? Find references to it on MS site but no explainations.

If a message is sent to a large DL with a dozen documents attached to it..... Am I right in saying that only one copy of each of the documents is saved in the attachment table on each server rather than sending a copy to every member of the DL ?

Yes you are correct (if you weren't my exchange would have been full 10 times over).

The attachment table is not something you can see though, just part of the Information Store.
