With Mode Code integration, one pathway between the PBX and the voice mail server transmits both call information and voice communications. The pathway is provided by 2-wire analog single-line circuits that connect to the message server system. Calls to an Message Server port are preceded by the called party information from the PBX in DTMF format. Message-waiting indication is set and canceled using DTMF commands over the same pathway.

So this is used if you don't have IP or serial connectivity btwn the PBX and voice mail server. I believe settings are on the system-parameters features form

We use Mode Code all the time on our Octel 100s. You configure it by creating a station type VMI and assigning it to an analog port. The voice mail is then connected to these ports. When a call goes to voice mail, the PBX sends the caller info over the analog line, so the voice mail doesn't need a serial link or voice bridge.

One thing to note, I had an Octel tech tell me that mode code uses a lot of processor resources. The older PBXs couldn't use it for large scale systems (don't know about newer servers though).

mode codes" as said before,is the way that u have to communicate between the voicemail and the PBX if u don't have a link. It is the less desireable way of connecting due to the slowness and loss of features when using mode codes instead of a link. If u have a link to your voicemail, then u don't need to know anything about mode codes. If u have mode codes, consider upgrading to a link. If u have a older prologic , then u will have to upgrade. If u have most other Definitys, just wiring and software changes will usually get u to a better integration.
