What is: "Leave Messages On Server?"

Hi All,
In Outlook, the above mentioned setting is in Tools|Accounts|Properties|Advanced...

It seems like this should allow you to download your emails from one machine, even delete them, then hit 'Send/Recieve' again (from the same machine or a different machine using the same email account), and those same messages should still be on the ISP's server, and you should see them again.

This doesn't appear to be the case--what then, does this option do? Thanks,

You can go to another machine and hit "Send / Receive" and get the messages again. The messages are indeed left on the server until your quota is exceeded. For example, go to and check your email. It is your local email program that keeps track of what messages it has received, that is why you don't get them twice. If you check your emailwith another program on the same machine, it will download the same messages, but only once, unless it is a stupid program.
