Hey guys-

New to Citrix, what does Nfuse essentially do? Can I use Citrix on a Windows 2000 server without Termical Services installed, which leads to this question -how are licenses affected and how many does Citrix come with initially?? Just curious as my employer is discussing the potential of installing Citrix company wide..

Thanks for all your info!

Citrix is an add-on for terminal services. So a Terminal Server is always required.
To setup a connection to a citrix server based on win2k3 you would need:
- A win2k3 CAL (named)
- A win2k3 TS cal (named)
- A citrix cal (concurrent)
To catch up on the licensing stuff, have a look at:

Citrix uses a different license setup then Microsoft.
If you buy for example Citrix XPa, then you can create a farm with as mutch servers as you like. You can use the same media kit for all servers. You just pool the licenses farmwide. So basicly after buying, all you need is to make sure you have enough connection licenses for citrix, as you have concurrent users farmwide.

NFuse is the webbased version of the Program Neighbourhood client. It makes client side configuration no longer needed, and is often used for internet deployment of Citrix.

With your current level of knowledge, i would advise you to get some good advise of a third party integrator that specialises in citrix.

Thanks I appreciate your detailed info.. can you recommend a good book for studying towards the CCA exam... My employer has been suggesting this for quite some time.. I might just go to bookpool.com, they have great book price deals..

Thanks again!

I would strongly reccomend a "hands on" class if you are able to find one locally. I went to one put on by a company called Gotham technology which was top notch. They are not cheap though, I believe the intro to XP was in the 1200-1500 range for 3 days... The advanced was about the same, they prepare you for the exams though.

Look into it, (even check the Citrix website) there are plenty of partners doing training for the tests...
