Good example, but the tendency is not just that kind of laziness by spelling words as spoken, but also in the normal etymology of words. Automobile is shortened to Auto, omnibus became bus, to stay on the vehicle topic. There are many such cases of words surely very accepted by everyone which came from abbreviating something.
I actually would like ideation as the word itself, if it wouldn't just be idea generation - as if an idea would be the product of a factory. Perhaps the think tank? There are better words for idea generation, aren't there? Creativity, brainstorming... Depends on the topic and case, perhaps, but there surely are very many and good words.
It's acceptable, that sciences have their own language and specialist terms to separate something from the colloquial language, but if that breaks that barrier and appears in such public and common places like blogs, the term loses it's differentiation. It may have it's reason from the therapy form, but then that's something you can't really prevent from happening. Maybe also a way to get some awareness.
Bye, Olaf.
