What HD is Compatible ?

I get the odd dropped frame (rarely) when capturing DV, and I think I'm right in blaming my HD's 5400rpm speed for this. Also, I am severely limited at just 8.4GB, so an upgrade is essential.
I have seen a good deal on a Seagate Barracuda IV 60GB ATA100 3.5LP 8.2ms 7200rpm.

I know nothing about HD's and so I'm not sure it's compatible with my Gigabyte GA-6BXC motherboard. I just want to unplug the old Maxtor, and plug in the Seagate. Can I ?????

I have trawled Gigabytes site and found my board, but it is out of my depth of knowledge. If anyone can give me sound advice, here is a link to my motherboard details. I need to know if the above Seagate HD (in bold text)is compatible

Since your mobo has a UDMA/33 disk controller, you're not going to exploit the full potential of the ATA100 disk. Maybe you should consider either a mobo upgrade or an ATA100 disk controller.

The disk is compatible, and will work, but the protocol it will use, ie UDMA/33, will restrict the throughput of data somewhat.

Gotcha

I think I'd probably be better off getting a new PC than forking out for a new motherboard. I see TIME is selling a Pentium4 1.5GB 256mb ram with 60GB HD for under £350.
