What Factors Can Change System ID on MICS??????

Hey All; Thanks in advance for any and all posts. Wondering what it takes to change system ID.
Is it only sofware upgrades? Had it happen, didn't know, and PRI enabler was no good. Got the ID before I did upgrade, got the enabler, swapped software and tried to input enabler....... No good. Just wanted to make sure there is nothing else that can do this to me again. P.S. I felt like a moron!

An upgrade should not change the System ID. But if you started the upgrade and did not let it complete and put the lower software back in then yes it will change.

Any type of downgrade will change the ID 9 out of 10 times. But as a rule if I'm adding any codes plus doing an upgrade I do not activate the codes until after the system is upgraded and running the way I want it. Then I activate the codes with Nortel. I'm sure others here can tell you horror stories about the ID changing on them also. I think it has happened to all of us.

I've done some experimentation on my test system and as Hawks wrote, any kind of hardware or software downgrade will change the system ID every time.

you can also change a system id if you are using NRU worksheets and loading a program from that, sounds kind of screwy but had it happen in my first norstar class.

jerry- did it change to something random, or the ID on the worksheets? I'm not sure I have the cajones to test it on a running system.

It's been a few years but what was happening was we did a download from one machine and then uploaded it to another machine and suddenly we had two machines with the same id.

I've seen Sys ID's change on upgrades, down-grades, startups, hardware changes, and occassionally, on a reboot.

My personal mode of operation, when I was in the field, was to write the Sys ID on the inside cover of the KSU along with any keycodes I had generated and the date. CYA!

I always include documenting the Sys ID prior to starting any upgrade work too.

We did about startups on a CICS and finaly got the original system ID back.

MICS we tried about 20 times but didnt have time for more tries.

Thanks Everyone! I will keep this thread for the future, and like I said it was the first time it had happened to me, and I'm sure it won't be the last!
