Having already had to learn what WinXP Pro Tablect P.C. edition is, I now see frequent mentions of the Media Center edition. What exactly is it?

It's a version of Windows XP optimized for digital entertainment (that includes TV) [as opposed to using Windows XP Pro in a corporate environment or XP Home in a <gasp> home environment].
