We currently use 6400 digital sets. We don't want to go with IP phones but possibly want to upgrade to a different digital set. Any feedback on how the 2 compare? which you lke better?
The 2400 sets are fine, the issue many users have with them, who are used to 6400 series phones, is the multiple pages. You don't "see" all your buttons at once, and you have to scroll through 3 or more pages (3 pages of 8 buttons/page with the 2420, 4 pages of 6 buttons/page with the 2410), and many don't like that.
The phone has a call log, similar to the IP phones, although you can't "redial" from the log, because there is no way to insert the "9,1" in front of the logged number, without saving it to a speeddial and modifying the speedial #.
The 2400 series are firmware upgradeable, and R5 seems to have fixed most of the issues with the 2410/2420 phones.
Overall the 2400 series is a good choice, if you are staying with digital phones, however, in general digital phones are going the way of the do-do, towards extinction.
you setup a TFTP server, and then load files into a CLAN or Processor Etheernet via the "change tftp" command. You specify the file name, and the node-names of the source TFTP server, and the CLAN/PE node-name.
Once it's loaded into either CLAN or PE memory, there is a command to upgrade phones ("change firmware station"), and there can also be a dialcode, listed in the "change features" screen under "Station Firmware Download Access Code:", you type pickup a phone, type in this code, then hangup, and the phone will upgrade (if you want to do them onsite/manually), the other command "change firmware station" allows you to do them remotely.
