What Can OTM 2.2 Do and What can it NOT do?

My boss wants to know the extent of our OTM. He would like it to be able to monitor all our PBX's and send SNMP traps to our Network Operations group for monitoring. His "goal" is to be able to phase out our telecom vendor from monitoring and have them around for us to dispatch. I try to explain that OTM, while it does do alot, cannot be a replacement for the CLI. (or can it?) I know our Network Ops guys would not look forward to learing a new "system" and personally, I don't want them in my PBXs. I think OTM is a great tool, but i don't want to give up our vendor and the monitoring they provide. My boss seems to think you can learn "what we do" overnight. It's just not gonna happen. I've been playing with Meridians for over 10 years and still learn new things once in a while.
OTM experts: let me know what OTM can do.
thanks to all.

OTM is a great tool for people who are use to just using a Mouse & enjoy looking at Stats!.
Not wishing to appear rude. The tool has indeed improved a great deal over the years. It has to be used for ITG Trunk / Line & DECT configuration etc. I prefer to use programs such as "Procomm Plus" for my TTY Access.
Over the years, I've had to sort out many problems with databases, which were caused by the use of MAT / OTM. I'm told that vety soon, OTM will be phased out.
I've been using "Element Manager" & I think it's a much better design. I guess that this tool will soon have the rest of the OTM functions added into it.

firebirdscrambler, where can I find more info about "Element Manager"?.h

The "Element Manager" software is housed within the Sig Server. It is installed when the Signalling Server software is loaded in.
Your Meridian will need to be upgraded to Succession V03.00 or Call Server V04.00 etc.

I'm being told by our vendor(background: we have rls 25 right now and are going to 3.0 next week, Im also going to be getting a media card to start testing out IP phones) is telling me that we need an OTM client to starting using IP phones. 1) Is this true? 2)Could I just get a signaling server instead(we'll probably get one anyway) and use element manager instead of OTM?

Thanks in advance

If you are getting a signalling server, that statement is incorrect, and I would look to make sure you have someone installing that knows the whole process.

Succession 3.0 is a late upgrade, and I am surprised you are not going to 4.0. Unless this is a late "Loyalty Upgrade" for signing a maint agreement.

You can format the Media Cards with Element Manager. You should get the Sig Server. Everything is moving that way.

And you would still use OTM for phones, until they integrate with EM.

All my opinions.

I would tell people to use OTM to make the managers happy. When they come down to the switchroom have it on so they can see a GUI interface to the PBX. Whey they are gone, it's ok to bring up tek-tips.com again, or solitaire, or bejewelled.

OTM can send SMNP traps, and there is a script built into OTM to do this. All I had to do to get mine going was to get OTM pointed to our exchange servers IP address.

You can also filter what "alerts" that you want sent you.

And at this point and time OTM alerts me if an ITG card goes down, and our remote monitoring service remains cluless until I pop the D-channell.

2.2 also has filtering setup for the corporate directory, if you have 3903's and 3904's, so you can filter out names that you don't want pushed out to the sets.
