What are the minimum requirements to run Windows 98?

Do you mean, what are the only things needed to be checked in MSCONFIG? [deejay]

I'm sorry no I ment the minimum for installation requirements.

When you re-install windows, you have the option to choose a customn install. This is what I do. I don't select typical windows install. You have to know what everything is, when you look at the list. You don't have to install any of it, but then you wouldn't be able to use the internet, or use things such as MSN Messenger, unless you install it.

To see the list of everything that your windows system has installed, goto Control Panels, goto Add/Remove Programs, Click on the Windows setup tab, and a list will appear, with checkboxes. You can highlight a word and click details to see what is include in the category, or you can just double click the word. Get familiar with what does what, and then when you do a custom install, you see that same little box at Windows setup, and you can choose what you want to install. (The color will be in 8 bit colors).

You will want some of the accessories, and some of the communications stuff, and the system tools, and perhaps the desktop themes, if that comes with your computer.

Hope this helps you out. [deejay]

nobrain is right as far as the official minimums are concerned, it will install with that processor and RAM but in practice if you try to use such a system you will be going for a cup of coffee between every mouse click. I installed it on a 486/100 with 32MB RAM and it was just barely usable, I would say this is the minimum practical configuration. Win 95 runs a lot better on such low end systems.

I agree with Mulga. Win95 would better suit low-end systems. For WIn98, you should have at least a 100MHz Pentium processor with 32MB RAM to have any kind of luck using it. Personally though, I wouldn't go with anything short of a P-166MMX with 64MB RAM.
